One of the DECI objectives is to develop, test and adapt a UFE curriculum.  Our first version includes 5 modules, with two extras that address issues specific to the field of information and communication technology for development (ICT4D).  During DECI we will refine and adapt these modules.

After many months of cuting, evaluating and editing, we have completed the first version of the videos were produced from the UFE workshop that took place in KL on December 9-10 2007.

For those who attended the workshop, these videos will help them remember those important moments, and for those who could not make it, we hope these videos can bring in part the feel and spirit of learning that prevailed at the workshop.

You can see the summary of the entire workshop, called “Evaluation in Practice 5 minute overview” and check out the presentations given by Jess Dart (Most Significant Change), Sarah Earl (Outcome Mapping) and Chat Garcia (Gender Evaluation Methodology).  The long videos have been broken into small chunks.

Many days have passed since the Evaluation in Practice workshop that brought together over twenty people working in the ICT4D field. The workshop was held in Malaysia in December 8-9, 2007 to coincide with the GK3 conference.

IDRC invited facilitators to present three evaluation approaches that have promise to be systematically for ICT4D research projects: Outcome Mapping (OM), Gender Evaluation Methodology GEM) and Most Significant Change (MSC). Facilitators also assisted project leaders Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean and their counterparts at IDRC in finding the best entry points to include the evaluation approaches in project implementation plans.

The workshop was preceded by interviews to establish levels of M&E interests, knowledge , needs and expectations among participants through interviews and d in order to learn about their needs and expectations.

Participants expressed their satisfaction with the workshop and it is expected that there will be follow up work around the issues of M&E in ICT4D. An adaptive learning process for developing and applying sustainability indicators with local communities. This article describes a step-by-step process for identifying project components and indicators for sustainability and it can be found in our resources page.

We have been working very actively in the last month refining the agenda, narrowing scope of the workshop and deepening our friendships.

Some of the pre-workshop activities are underway, Ricardo Ramírez, the lead facilitator of the workshop, is busy contacting participants and setting up interviews with each to gather views, points of interest, idea of who the intended uses and users are, and goals for the workshop. In the coming days we will be posting interesting materials emerging from these conversations.
